Move afoot to improve public healthcare
District Collector K Surendra Mohan said people were increasingly depending on government healthcare facilities. The number of patients visiting the government hospitals showed that the people had, of late, reposed their faith in them, he added.

In an exclusive interview to The Hans India on Wednesday, Surendra Mohan said the administration had paid special attention to improve facilities in government hospitals. The State government had directed the district administration to ensure all-round development of government hospitals, he said.
The Collector said facilities were improved in 23 Primary Health Centres, two Area Hospitals and two Community Hospitals on par with corporate hospitals. Air-conditioners too were installed in the hospitals for the convenience of patients, Surendra Mohan said.
The district administration secured “Excellency” Award in the implementation of KCR Kits. He dedicated the award to all those who strived to make the programme a grand success.
Institution deliveries in government hospitals had increased by 64 per cent from just 25 per cent earlier. The scheme had, in fact, contributed to improvement in health of mother and child. Infact mortality rate had declined. Vaccinations for children had increased. Officials teams from Krishna district in Aandhra Pradesh, Siricilla, Nalgonda and Yadadri-Bhongir district visited the hospitals, he said.
Speaking on the government’s flagship programme, Haritha Haram, the Collector said the scheme had brought laurels to the district. During the last two years, as many as two crore saplings were planted across the district, including those on either side of the National Highway-65 passing through the district. The district administration aimed to plant 1.39 corre saplings in the district during the next phase of Haritha Haram.
Surendra Mohan said the administration had development an ideal Anganwadi centre with swimming pool, audio and video facilities at B Chandupatla village under Penpahad mandal at an estimated cost of Rs 5 lakhs to help the children from poor families.
The Collector, in reply to a question, said construction of an integrated Collectorate building was in progress at a brisk pace. As much as Rs 4.5 crore worth of works had been completed. The building would be ready for inauguration by March next year.
The government’s decision to establish a medical college in Suryapet district is a feather in cap of the district administration. He recalled that a request was made to the government through District Medical and Health Officer. The administration had chalked out plans to construct medical college in 20 on SV College premises in the town, he said.
