Khammam : CPM leaders along with representatives of various people’s organisations paid rich tributes to Chakali Ilamma here at Dharna Chowk on Monday commemorating her 33nd death anniversary. CPM district secretary Nunna Nageswara Rao said Chityala played a key role as a revolutionary during the Telangana Peasants Armed Struggle.

Her revolt against the feudal lord Zamindar Ramachandra Reddy to save her four acres of land when he tried to occupy it, inspired many others during the rebellion against the feudal lords of Telangana. He appealed the youth to take her as an inspiration to fight against the feudalism and social justice.

CPM leaders Y Srikanth, K Venkateshwar Rao, M Bharati, Srinivas Rao, T Lingaiah, G Rama Devi, B Venkat Kumar, M Gopal, B Indira, Nagamani, Begum, Ramya, Ashok and others were present on the occasion. Meanwhile, members of the Telangana Rajaka Seva Society (TRSS) paid rich floral tribute to her here in Khammam.

Eulogising the bravery of the Chakali Ilamma, TRSS leader Sattanepalli Srinu said Ilamma was valiant fighter of the Telangana Peasant’s Armed Struggle and role model for many women belonging to the weaker sections. He urged the people belonging to washermen community to fight for equality and rise against the government and parties who show discrimination against them.

TRSS members A Venkateshwarlu V Saidulu, N Venkanna, A Rajesh, A Koteshwar Rao and P Nageshwar Rao were present on the occasion. The representatives of the MBC Sangham also paid rich tributes to the portrait of Chakali Ilamma on her death anniversary here at Manchikanti Bhavan.

Addressing the gathering, Sangham’s district president Pakala Upendar said though she was born as a middleclass washerwoman, Ilamma actively participated in the movement against Nizam regime and her house was the centre of activities against the feudal lords, who shook hands with Nizam.
