Hyderabad: Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Chief and Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s birthday on Sunday was a low-key affair as the Chief Minister announced that he would not celebrate his birthday as a mark of respect to the CRPF jawans martyred in the Pulwama attack.

President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed birthday greetings to the Chief Minister. According to the Chief Minister’s Office, Kovind, Modi and Venkaiah conveyed their greetings to Rao over the phone. Prime Minister Modi also greeted the Chief Minister on Twitter. He tweeted, “may almighty bless him with a long life filled with good health,” on his Twitter account.

Governor E S L Narasimhan wished K Chandrashekar Rao on his birthday and extended warm greetings to him. The Governor wished him a long and healthy life in the service of Telangana State and its people.

It may be mentioned here that the Chief Minister has already announced that he will not celebrate his birthday in the wake of 14 February Pulwama terror attack that claimed the lives of 49 CRPF jawans.

K Chandrashekar Rao said at a time when the nation was in a state of grief it would not be proper on his part to celebrate. The Chief Minister has asked all leaders and cadres of his party not to organise any celebrations. Former Minister T Srinivas Yadav had cancelled the birthday celebrations, which he had planned at Jal Vihar at Necklace Roads.

The TRS leaders took part in blood donation and also pledged to donate organs. TRS working president K T Rama Rao, who had given a call for planting a sapling planted one at CM’s camp office on Sunday.

KT Rama Rao along with the family members planted a sapling in CM’s camp office on Sunday morning. “Each of my family members planted a sapling wishing KCR a long, healthy, happy life filled with peace and love. Many wishes to a rare leader and a fighter who personifies courage, commitment and grit... proud that he is also my father,” said KTR on his twitter handle @KTRTRS.

Former Minister T Harish Rao also planted a sapling in his constituency Siddipet. Along with Harish Rao several other TRS leaders planted saplings in the town. Rao wished KCR lived for over 100 years on his twitter handle @trsharish.

Nizamabad MP K Kavitha pledged to donate organs in a programme ‘Jeevan Daan’ (organ donation) started by Telangana Jagruti at People’s Plaza. Kavitha signed a document pledging to donate her organs. The motto of the programme was to create awareness about organ donation. MP Joginipally Santosh and other TRS leaders were also present.
