Vikarabad: Three districts have been carved out from the erstwhile Rangareddy district, and only five months of term is left for Rangareddy Zilla Parishad.

New Zilla Parishads will by formed for the new districts Medchal and Vikarabad apart from Rangareddy after the elections. After considering all the changes that had taken place while reorganising the district, officials are preparing a latest list of MPTC and ZPTCs in the three districts.

During the process of district reorganisation, some villages and even mandals were merged from one district to another. Based on the new geographical conditions, officials prepared a draft consisting of new territorial constituencies for both mandals and zilla parishads. Suggestions or objections if any from the people will be accepted till February 24.

Not just creation of new districts, but also upgradation of major panchayats to municipalities has its impact on new territorial constituencies. For instance, Parigi and Kodangal panchayats were made municipalities. Several villages were merged into these two municipalities. As a result, the number of MPTCs will come down. Due to this, almost 13 MPTCs have lost their existence in Vikarabad district.

Except the mandals under Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, there are 20 ZPTCs in Rangareddy district. Vikarabad district has 17 ZPTCs and one more may be added as per new developments. The new mandal parishad will have 222 MPTC instead of earlier number of 235.
In Medchal district, there will be four ZPTC in the parishad. Earlier, the number was five. Instead of 144 MPTCs, the new mandal parishad will have only 42 MPTCs. The district has a smaller number of territorial constituencies because most of the area of the district is urban.
