Palamur to become eco-tourism hub
Tourism in Telangana is in for a big boost as the government embarked on two mega tourism circuits which would be major tourist attractions in the State.
Hyderabad: Tourism in Telangana is in for a big boost as the government embarked on two mega tourism circuits which would be major tourist attractions in the State.
A senior official of Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation said with the assistance from the Central government under Swadesh Darshan schemes, the government would take up integrated development of eco-tourism circuit in Mahbubnagar and also a tribal tourism circuit in Warangal district in the State. Accordingly, the Central government has sanctioned Rs 91.62 crore for eco-tourism circuit and Rs 92.11 crore for tribal tourism circuit.
The Central government has already released about Rs 18 crore towards developing eco-tourism and grants for tribal tourism would be released soon. The government chose Mahbubnagar for eco-tourism as it got natural beauty and also has well-developed road connectivity from Hyderabad.
The areas that would be covered under eco-tourism include Somasila riverside development, Singotam, Akka Mahadevi caves, Kadalivanam, Farahabad, Mallelatheertham, Srisailam and Uma Maheshwaram. Places covered under tribal tourism circuit are Mulugu, Laknavaram, Medaram, Tadvai, Damaravai, Mallur and Bogatha Waterfalls, he said.
“We have received initial assistance from the Central government and have called for tenders. Soon we will take up the work of eco-tourism. And very soon the Central government will also release assistance for tribal tourism circuit,” said Christina Z Chongthu, Managing Director, Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation.
“While the government has already commenced the boating facility at Rs 800 from Somasila to Srisailam, it is now exploring the facility of sea-plane from Somasila to Srisailam. The government is exploring option of sea-plane, ropeways, cottages and cruise boats under public-private partnership mode,” she added.
The corporation intends to have 4-8 seat capacity sea-planes which would further boost the tourism in Mahbubnagar. Private sea-plane operators have also shown interest in adding to the activity at the water-ports hub, he added. The TSTDC wants to have Wi-Fi connectivity all along the eco-tourism.
By developing the tribal tourism circuit, the government not only wants to give tourists an exposure to tribal culture but also generate employment for the tribals living in the circuit.
