Minister Sailajanath defends late supply of books Says teachers recruitment soon on a massive scale ShailazanathGovernment schools and a good number of private schools across the state were reopened on Thursday after a 45-day-long summer vacation. The Department of School Education in association with Rajiv Vidya Mission has been on a mission to enroll maximum number of children and bring back the drop-outs in remote villages. The RVM, as part of the three-phase Vidya Sambaralu, has enrolled over 1.5 lakh students in the past 12 days. The task was mostly handled by teachers, who were in fact back at duty on June 1 itself. In the second phase, several programmes are being planned. "Samuhika Aksharabhyasam" (Mass Literacy programme) was conducted on the first day on June 12. Minister for Primary Education Shailajanath participated in the main function held at the government school, Seetaphalmandi in Hyderabad. He made the kids recite 'Saraswati sloka' and write 'Om' on their slates. He also distributed 'hearing aid devices' to hearing impaired kids. "We have given spects to nearly 80 lakh visually-impaired students under Chinnari Choopu programme. Now, special hearing aids are distributed to partially-deaf students. More than 3,000 such students were identified by Anganwadi workers across the state and all these kids will be provided the hearing aid devices" he announced. Stung by criticism in all quarters, Sailajanath, however, put up a brave front on supply of books. "In fact, there were days when the books were supplied even in October and November whereas we could supply them in one month after reopening of schools" he defended. He assured that students in all grades will receive their textbooks by the end of June this year.He also said that measurements for the school uniforms would be taken after the commencement of classes, hence the delay in the supply of uniforms. The Minister listed out measures to expand the educational opportunities in all habitations. He claimed that Congress government has been on a massive recruitment drive and appointment of nearly 45,000 teachers to be completed by the turn of this year. "Quality education is being imparted at government schools and I urge everyone to strengthen the government school by sending their wards to them" he said.
