Good writing requires talent, and no one can teach you to have talent. According to Gene Fowler, “The best way to become a successful writer is to read good writing, remember it, and then forget where you remember it from.”

Here are some of the tips given by experts for improving neat handwriting. Move your entire arm rather than just your hand when writing. Hold your pen or pencil at ease, not too tight or too loose.

Practise drawing basic shapes like lines and circles. Try using different pencils and pens. Practise the alphabet until you perfect each letter. Write sets of words once you feel convinced in how your letters look.

Write in comfort, sit on a comfortable chair at a table which is the exact height for your own height. Choose fine quality materials to write with and on, as these have an effect on your writing comfort. Remember! Writing comes by writing right and by re-writing.

To make your writing more interesting, try writing pangrams. Pangrams are short texts which contain all or a part of all letters of the alphabet at least once. They help to correct writing of each letter and find specific mistakes.

For example, “The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.” Do it in both capitals and lowercase. Keep a page or two written in good hand writing in front of you for motivation. That should be a model for you.

While writing, all your letters should be of equal size. This will make your handwriting look neat and tidy.Try to write at least one paragraph each day as it will improve your handwriting.Use lined paper to help keep your writing aligned.

Stay on the line where required, only taking the letters above or below as required by the shape of the letter. Use college ruled rather than wide ruled if you struggle with large handwriting.

Don't press the nib (tip) of your pen hard on the paper during writing or you will develop "writer's cramp." Don't throw away any of your templates or practice sheets, you might need them as guidelines as you go along to see how the letters should look, and which things you shouldn't do.

Make sure not to waste paper when practising your handwriting. Use papers multiple times, and use the front and back of each sheet.
