iPhone 18 Pro Launches Tomorrow With A20 Pro Chip, Variable-Aperture Camera

The wait is over. Apple is going to hold its "Surprise and Shine" event tomorrow at 10:00 AM Pacific Time or 10:30 PM Indian Standard Time. I am excited because Apple will probably reveal the iPhone 18 Pro series. Apple may also surprise us with many more things. Apple could launch its foldable phone and Apple will also bring new versions of the Apple Watch and AirPods. I can’t wait to see what Apple has in store, for us.

The new iPhone lineup will obviously take centre stage. This event is very special for Apple. John Ternus will lead his major iPhone launch as CEO while Tim Cook will become Executive Chairman on September 1st.

Expected Specifications for the iPhone 18 Pro Series

Design: If you are hoping for a change in design, it's best to keep your expectations in check. The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are likely to look the same, as the iPhone 17 Pro series. Apple seems to be putting effort into the internal parts of the phone rather than changing the outside look. Still the iPhone 18 Pro Max might be a little thicker and heavier. That’s because it could have a battery inside.

Colours: Apple may give the Pro models a look with fresh colours this year. Apple rumours say the colour Dark Cherry, a red or burgundy shade could appear. Apple also mentions Sky Blue. Apple has also talked about Silver. There are reports about the Space Black model and whether Apple will make it. I wonder if Apple will keep Space Black or try something.

Display: As for the screen Apple is said to be keeping the 6.3-inch display, for the iPhone 18 Pro. The biggest change might be the Dynamic Island, which is likely to get smaller. This is because Apple is reportedly trying to make the facing sensors take up less space.

Chip: iPhone 18 Pro line is likely to include Apple’s A20 Pro chip. As would happen with a next‑generation chip the A20 Pro should give performance and better power use but Apple has not yet said exactly which new features the A20 Pro will have. Still rumours say the new chip will be made with 2nm technology, which could make it quicker and more efficient and help the battery last longer. That said, moving to an advanced manufacturing route may raise the price of the new iPhone 18 Pro.

Model: The new Pro models are also expected to include Apple's next-generation C2 modem. Apple has been shifting toward using its modem technology. The C2 could bring connectivity and more energy efficiency.

Camera: The iPhone 18 Pro series is already drawing attention for its colours and a powerful chip. Photography fans might get an even bigger thrill. Rumours point to a camera upgrade. A main camera with a variable aperture. This means the lens can change how much light comes in depending on the lighting. Unlike a fixed aperture this feature could give users control over their photos. It would help in lighting conditions like dim rooms or bright sun. You could get images in low light and better background blur in portraits. There’s also talk about a three-layer stacked sensor. That could improve image quality. Speed up performance. All of this points to a leap in phone photography.

However, this possible camera improvement might have a side: some reports suggest that the adjustable aperture camera could only be available for the iPhone 18 Pro Max.

This year pricing might be one of the closely watched parts of the new generation of iPhones. The tech industry is dealing with an increase in RAM prices because of a continuing memory shortage. Apple isn't escaping this problem. The company has already raised prices for some MacBook and iPad models to deal with supply chain expenses. Now there are rumours that the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro series could see price adjustments.

In the United States, estimates regarding the Bill of Materials or BOM suggest that the base price of the 256GB iPhone 18 Pro may range between $1,099 and $1,199. For buyers in India this shift could lead to a price increase. Industry reports show that Apple might raise prices by 10% to 20%, which translates to 10,000 to 20,000 rupees although Apple may absorb part of the higher component costs to keep demand steady. The Bill of Materials cost thus becomes a factor in the final price, for the iPhone 18 Pro.

For reference the iPhone 17 Pro launched in India with a starting price of 134,900 rupees for the base 256GB model. If Apple passes these costs on to the consumer the starting price of the iPhone 18 Pro could range between 144,900 and 149,900 rupees while the iPhone 18 Pro Max model could well exceed the 160,000-rupee mark.
