Truecaller reports that 98.5% of all spam calls in India were from domestic numbers.

Truecaller presents its latest "Statistics Report" listing the top 20 countries affected by spam calls in 2020. And as many of you may have already guessed, India exists. A breakdown has also been provided based on state calls from national numbers and more.

According to the firm, "there has been a significant change in the ranking of the countries that received the highest number of unwanted calls." On the list, India has fallen to ninth position in terms of the number of spam calls received by users globally. On the other hand, Brazil is still at the top. The reason why India's position dropped was that the spam calls received by Indian users dropped by 34%.

According to Truecaller, 98.5% of all spam calls in India were from domestic numbers. While this may be one of the main reasons why spam calls have declined in India, Truecaller claims that the strict lockdowns implemented in the country earlier this year due to pandemic also made it impossible for telemarketers to work. In fact, this prevented them from using the equipment they need to carry out large-scale spam campaigns.

It is also mentioned that operators remain the top spammers in India with 52% of user calls received for the sale of various offers and reminders. Telemarketers also contributed about 34% of the top spammers. "Scam" and "Financial Services" contributed around 9% and 5% when it comes to spam.
