Alert sounded over heavy inflows into Musi reservoir

Ketepally (Nalgonda): The Musi Reservoir continued to receive floodwater following heavy rains in its upper catchment areas, prompting irrigation officials to alert people living along it and its downstream areas. Against the reservoir’s Full Reservoir Level (FRL) of 645 ft, the water level has risen to 640.58 ft. The reservoir currently holds 3.35 TMC of water against its total storage capacity of 4.46 TMC.

Officials said the reservoir received an inflow of 1,150 cusecs during the past 24 hours. With heavy rains continuing in the upper catchment areas, inflows are likely to increase further in the coming hours. Irrigation Department official Yadagiri said that depending on the inflows and reservoir level, the gates may be opened as a precautionary measure to release water downstream.

People living in the Musi catchment and downstream areas have been advised to remain alert. Officials cautioned residents against entering the river or venturing close to its banks.

They particularly advised people to avoid visiting areas along the Musi during night hours unless necessary and urged residents to follow official warnings in view of the possibility of increased flood discharge.
