Vikarabad: The local body elections have reached the final stage. The contenders for the first two phases are almost finalised. The campaign has been going on vigorously. Scrutiny of the nominations for second phase elections is under progress. Now, it's time for third and final phase of elections. The filing of nominations for the third phase was started on Tuesday and will continue till Thursday.

• Final phase to be held for 71 MPTCs and one ZPTC in 7 mandals

• As many as 2,05,911 voters to exercise franchise at 423 polling stations

There are 18 mandals in the district. The elections for the final phase will be held for 71 MPTCs and one ZPTC in seven mandals. As many as 2, 05,911 voters are likely to exercise their franchise in 423 polling stations.

Nominations will be accepted for three days. The third phase elections will be held in Vikarabad, Tharur, Marpalli, Mominpet, Nawabpet, Bantwaram and Kotpally mandals of the Vikarabad Revenue Division.

The Election Commission has decided to hold a total of 18 ZPTC seats and 221 MPTC seats in three phases. In the first phase, election for 97 MPTCs and 7 ZPTC seats will be held on May 6 in Kodangal, Bomaraspet, Daultabad, Parigi, Kulkacharla, Doma and Pudurmandals. A total of 27 people are in the fray for the 7 ZPTC seats, while 272 candidates are competing for MPTC seats.

The second phase elections will be held in Tandur, Basheerabad, Yalal and Peddemul mandals. These include 4 ZPTCs and 53 MPTCs. A total 31 people are in the race for the ZPTC seat, and 273 are competing for the MPTC seats. May 2 is the last date for withdrawing nominations. The elections will be held on May 10. The third phase of elections in 7 mandals will be held on May 14.
