Hyderabad: In a major step towards improving road safety and connectivity, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced the construction of a six-lane elevated flyover at AIIMS Bibinagar along the Hyderabad–Yadadri stretch of NH-163. The Rs 98.26 crore project aims to address a long-standing accident-prone zone while ensuring smoother and safer access to the hospital for patients and commuters.

The proposed flyover, spanning 690 metres with 23 spans of 30 metres each, is part of a larger infrastructure upgrade covering 1.70 kilometres. Designed to streamline traffic flow around the busy hospital zone, the project will effectively cover both the main and emergency entry points of AIIMS Bibinagar. By separating high-speed highway traffic from local, hospital-bound vehicles, authorities expect a significant reduction in congestion and accident risks.

To further enhance accessibility, the project includes the development of 1.48 kilometres of service roads on either side of the highway, improving connectivity for commuters from Bhongir and nearby areas. Additional features include modern street lighting, bus shelters, traffic signage, safety markings, drainage systems with footpaths, and the reconstruction of six culverts.

Officials said the decision to construct an elevated flyover replaces earlier proposals for underpasses, as it offers a more sustainable, long-term solution to handle increasing traffic volumes. Once completed, the project is expected to improve traffic efficiency while creating a safer environment for patients, hospital staff, and the general public.
