Delayed road works leave Wanaparthy residents in distress
Wanaparthy: Road and drainage works between Subhash Crossroads and Jurala Canal in Wanaparthy are progressing slowly, causing inconvenience to motorists and leaving families affected by road widening in distress. Around 150 people reportedly lost their houses and shops during the widening project. Though political leaders had promised alternative land titles or two-bedroom houses nearly three years ago, the affected families are still waiting.
The four-lane BT road was taken up with Rs.3.80 crore TUSIDC funds, while Rs.25 lakh from Collector and municipal funds was spent on shifting electric poles. Works on one side were completed, but the other side remains unfinished.
Residents also alleged that drainage width is inconsistent. Municipality AE Chandrasekhar said contractors were instructed to maintain 40 feet on both sides. He acknowledged that drainage was built to 38 feet at one location and said work must comply with the 40-foot requirement.
