Chandrayangutta: In view of novel Corona virus (2019-nCoV) scare after the southern State of Kerala confirmed 3 cases and on the occasion of Cancer Day, the GHMC officials along with doctors of Basti Dawakhana conducted a general medical camp and distributed medicines for increasing immunity, as the vulnerable were mostly found to be with weak health.

Speaking to The Hans India, N Venugopal, the Deputy Project Officer who was part of the camp organised at Arundathi Colony in Uppuguda on Tuesday, said that since there were some confirmed cases in Kerala, they decided to organise the camp with the intention of generating awareness and ensuring that people residing in the slums of this area get medicine towards increasing immunity. "During the camp not only awareness about symptoms were explained, but also the locals were asked to conduct regular checkup, even if they were attracted to common cold and cough, so that any symptom is taken care off and addressed immediately" he explained. The programme was attended by Shirley Pushyaragam, GHMC Deputy Commissioner (Circle-8), while local Basti Dawakhana Medical Officer Dr Ruchika interacted with the locals and cleared doubts raised by them. Medicines including B-complex tablets, cough syrups, lotions for skin ailments and ORS packets were distributed amongst the locals. Besides organising camp in the area, the Asha and Anganwadi workers undertook door-to-door campaign and reached out to the slum dwellers in this endeavour. "These women helped in generating awareness and clearing about apprehensions about the new kind of virus which started spreading from China and is yet to brought under control at global level. People were asked to drink boiled water and to avoid cold water from fridge and to ensure any possibility is prevented in households and symptoms like common cold and cough remained under check," added Venugopal.
