Hyderabad: In order to prepare the party for the ensuing municipal elections, the Congress would hold party flag hoisting programmes all over the State under the banner 'Intintiki Congress Jhanda' from Saturday.
The programme would be continued till Monday (i.e., July 30). Each Congress worker and leader has to hoist the party flag on their residences and should have the flag on their vehicles.
All-important State leaders, District and Town Congress presidents would participate in the programme. The party has given special emphasis to the programme in the municipalities and corporations which would have elections soon.
A decision on hoisting the party flag on each residence of party leaders and workers has been taken in the meeting of the core committee of the TPCC which was recently held at Sangareddy.
Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president N Uttam Kumar Reddy has given detailed instructions to party leaders and workers in this regard. On Friday, TPCC working president Ponnam Prabhakar and vice president Kumar Rao have called on the DCC and TCC presidents on phone from Gandhi Bhavan and instructed them to hold the programme prestigiously.
They said that all the important leaders of the TPCC, district coordinators, DCC president, TCC presidents, former MLAs, contested candidates of Assembly and Lok Sabha and MLCs should take part in the programme.
The leaders should choose a ward or village, each day in the next three days, and participate in the programme. Under the 'Intintiki Congress Jenda' the leaders should address the meetings of the workers after hoisting the party flags.
The Congress has given special emphasis to the programme where municipal elections would take place any time in next month. The leaders have been told to send the reports of the programmes being held. Those actively participated in the programme would be given priority in ticket distribution.
Though the State government is yet to take a decision on holding the municipal elections, the Congress is getting ready for them. Already two rounds of State level meetings have been held to prepare the party rank and file.
District and town level meetings have been planned in next month. The candidates would be selected as soon as the schedule is announced at the municipality and corporation level. Party leaders have been exhorting the workers to win the municipalities.
Senior leaders of the party said the Congress must win majority of the municipalities and corporations to prove its strength in the State.
As the BJP has been claiming that it was the only alternative to the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi, the Congress wants to show the saffron party its true strength.
