Karimnagar: City Mayor Y Sunil Rao appealed the members of women societies to come forward for the preparation of vermi compost.

A one-day training programme was organised for MEMPA women societies on vermi compost unit at the conference hall of City

Municipal Corporation in Karimnagar on Wednesday.

Trainers from Ramagundam gave training on the preparation of vermi compost, materials and methods to be used, selection of place for preparation, where to sell vermi compost etc., to about 40 members of women societies of MEMPA under the

supervision of Mayor Sunil Rao and Municipal Commissioner Valluri Kranthi.

Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Sunil Rao said the city municipal corporation is ready to help and support the women societies, which come forward to establish vermi compost units under the corporation limits by providing them suitable place along with dry and wet waste materials for the preparation.

Vermi compost can be prepared in the premises of houses also. In the past, vermi compost centres were established in Housing Board and SRR College under the municipal corporation.

The Municipal Corporation will purchase the compost for growing saplings in nurseries, which will be established under the corporation, he assured.

Municipal Commissioner Valluri Kranthi said that every day around 50 per cent of wet waste is produced under corporation limits. Instead of shifting it to the dumping yard, the women societies can utilise it for preparing vermi compost.

By establishing vermi compost units either at the houses or at other places suggested by corporation, women societies can avail self-employment opportunities, she suggested.

Additional Commissioner Srinivas, TMC Anitha and COs of women societies were present along with others.
