Kamareddy: District Horticulture and Sericulture Officer Jyothi has urged farmers to take up oil palm cultivation to improve their income and earn higher profits. She was speaking at an awareness programme held on Wednesday at Gunuganti Praveen Kumar’s oil palm farm in Ambaripet village of Domakonda mandal.

She said farmers could grow intercrops such as guava, papaya, soybean, maize and vegetables between oil palm plants to earn additional income. The government would provide 50 plants per acre, along with subsidies for plants and drip irrigation. Hindustan Unilever Limited would also offer financial assistance of Rs. 5,000 per acre towards drip irrigation.

She urged farmers to pay demand drafts for plants and complete drip surveys before the December deadline. Horticulture officials, company representatives and farmers from several villages attended the programme.
