Husnabad Transport and BC Welfare Minister PonnamPrabhakar on Monday inaugurated paddy and cotton procurement centres at the Husnabad Agricultural Market Yard, announcing that 136 centres would operate across the constituency.

He directed officials to ensure accurate weighing and hassle-free procurement, assuring farmers that the government would purchase all produce brought to the centres. Advising farmers against selling below the minimum support price (MSP), he urged them to avoid middlemen and fraudulent practices. He also assured that the bonus for fine-quality paddy would be credited to farmers’ accounts.

Expressing concern over a possible rainfall deficit due to El Niño, the Minister called for collective efforts to safeguard drinking water, agriculture and electricity supplies. Rainwater harvesting, borewell recharge, tank desilting and canal maintenance works were being undertaken under the employment guarantee scheme.

An all-party meeting would be held on October 28 to discuss preparedness, followed by a delegation’s visit to Delhi to seek the Centre’s support for Telangana. A separate meeting would also be convened in Husnabad to prepare a local action plan.

Ponnam said land acquisition for the Gouravelli project canals was progressing. He added that 5,500 Indiramma houses had been sanctioned in two phases. Development initiatives include an engineering college, a 250-bed hospital, a kabaddi academy and a swimming pool.

Local representatives and officials attended the programme.
