Journalists here on Thursday urged the State government to provide Rs 50 lakh life insurance on a par with the government employees.

Srikakulam: Journalists here on Thursday urged the State government to provide Rs 50 lakh life insurance on a par with the government employees. The journalists representing various newspapers and unions met Assembly Speaker Tammineni Sitaram here on Thursday and submitted a memorandum to him in this regard.

Speaking on the occasion, journalists S JogiNaidu, Ch Laxmana Rao, A Yugandhar, R Suryanarayana, B Srirammurthy, G Nagabhusanam, B Umamaheswara Rao said that Kerala and Odisha State governments have been paying Rs 10,000 as allowance to all accredited journalists in the wake of Covid-19. They said the journalists too were working as strenuously as the Revenue, Medical and police. The journalists need to be provided with insurance, they submitted to the Speaker.

Responding to the plea by the journalists, the Speaker promised to discuss it with Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy soon.
