Onion prices are rampant across the country since the last three months due to the incessant rains MAharsatra and Andhra Pradesh. The amount of onions per kilo is close to Rs. 100 in south India. However, the rise in the onion prices have become the boon to the farmers as there is importation of onion from neighbouring states,

But this has put a severe burden on the customers in AP. As a result, the government is taking steps to bring down the prices. The government will be selling onions for Rs 25 per kg, "The farmer's bazaars in Andhra Pradesh will start selling onions from today at Rs 25. While onion markets are priced at Rs 80 per kg," the government said. With this, the govt has to a burden of Rs.40 lakhs per day.

The government reportedly will buy 150 tonnes of onion per day from the farmers of Kurnool district to sell onion at farmer's bazaars.
