Eluru: West Godavari District Collector R Muthyala Raju has directed the officials of the health department to purchase the necessary equipment so that all tests could be conducted in government hospitals.

The patients need not go outside the hospitals for any tests recommended by government doctors, he said. The District Collector was participating in a review meeting with medical and health officials here on Thursday night said that the government hospitals should provide better medical care to the poor free of cost.

He insisted on conducting all necessary tests for the patients in the government hospitals itself. If necessary, the required equipment should be purchased. Similarly, all medicines necessary for patients should be kept ready in hospitals. In case of necessity, the medicines should be purchased from hospital development society funds, he suggested.

The Collector expressed concern that patients have been spending a lot for disease diagnose and its treatment in private hospitals. The government hospitals must get the diagnosis equipment by calling tenders.

Referring to the drop in number of delivery cases in government hospitals, he asked the officials to find the reasons for the same. While private hospitals are dealing 60 per cent of the deliveries, the government hospitals have been poor with 40 per cent cases, he informed. He directed the officials to increase the number of cases to 50 per cent. DMHO Dr Subrahmanyeswari and other officials were present.
