The crime rate in the first six months of 2019 has come down in Urban Police District compared to corresponding period in 2018, according to Urban SP KKN Anburajan.

Tirupati: The crime rate in the first six months of 2019 has come down in Urban Police District compared to corresponding period in 2018, according to Urban SP KKN Anburajan. The SP released the crime rate details of the Urban District here on Friday. A total of 1,671 cases were registered in which 287 are theft cases, 189 grave offences, 95 cheating, 257 road accidents and 304 traffic violation cases.

Explaining the measures taken to bring down the crime rate, the SP stated special teams were formed to crack down on betting and gambling activities. "We are also implementing Palle Nidra to prevent crimes in villages and improve friendly policing in rural segments," he stated.

Four Circle Inspectors and 10 Sub-Inspectors under the supervision of a DSP must sleep in select villages falling under respective police station limits.

"Our police personnel are using social media effectively to create awareness among people about various crimes," the SP said and added that city residents are regularly viewing videos uploaded on official YouTube channel regarding traffic rules and regulations.
