Eluru district collector, Prasanna Venkatesh, announced that the state government is fully implementing the Kanti Velugu program to provide free ophthalmology services to people suffering from eye problems. The Ophthalmology Department of the Central Government General Hospital purchased modern ophthalmology equipment worth around Rs. 27 lakhs for eye examinations. Collector Prasanna Venkatesh inaugurated the equipment.

He emphasized that the government hospital's eye department has been established to provide better eyesight through modern examination equipment compared to corporate hospitals. Eye examinations, eye glasses, and medicines are provided free of charge. The collector also emphasized the importance of better sanitation in government hospitals and the provision of better medical services to the poor through the Arogyasree scheme.

As part of efforts to modernize government hospitals in the state, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy provided expensive supplies to the eye department of the new medical teaching hospital in Mana Eluru Government Hospital.

The superintendent of the government hospital, Dr. U. Agnes Vijaya Madhuri, mentioned several ophthalmic devices, including equipment for measuring disease severity and progression, tools for detecting slow eye diseases, LCD vision diagnostic devices, and examination devices for diabetic retinopathy and refractive errors.

District Collector Prasanna Venkatesh himself underwent eye tests and inspected the eye examination department and wards. Officials, doctors, nurses, and medical staff were present during the event.
