Guntur : Home Minister Mekathoti Sucharita said that the aim of Amma Vodi scheme is to extend helping hand to the poor students to continue their studies.
She addressed a meeting held at Sri Venkateswara Vignana Mandiram in Guntur city on Monday on the occasion of launching of Ammavodi.
Speaking on this occasion, she said that Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy had promised to implement the scheme for the welfare of poor students. That is why he is implementing the scheme. She felt that the scheme is useful to check dropouts in the schools and junior colleges. She listed the welfare schemes being implemented by the government for the welfare of students in the State and added that the government is giving top priority to education to achieve total literacy.
She added that the government has already started English medium classes for the convenience of the poor students. She said that the government has announced the welfare calendar and implementing the schemes.
District Collector I Samuel Anand Kumar said that the government will extend financial assistance of Rs15,000 to each poor student under the scheme and added that the government had already renovated the schools to attract more students.
MLC KS Lakshmana Rao felt that the Ammavodi scheme is useful to the poor students. He said dropouts have increasing in the State for the last two years. He felt that the welfare schemes are useful to increase literacy among the poor. He recalled said the the government would conduct TET and DSC very soon.
Later, financial assistance was distributed to 6,77,212 students under Ammavodi. MP Alla Ayodhya Rami Reddy, MLC AS Rama Krishna, MLAs Mustafa, Maddali Giri, Joint collector P Prasanti were among those participated.
