Guntur: Panic over Secretariat staffer testing coronavirus positive

Guntur: An employee working in the agriculture department in the state Secretariat at Velgapudi tested positive for Covid-19 and has been shifted to the Covid-19 block at NRI General Hospital in Mangalgiri.

As many as 250 government employees came from Hyderabad by bus to Secretariat to attend their duties following orders of the government on May 26. Doctors conducted tests at CK Convention Centre and allowed them to attend their duties.

However, after they joined the duty, the test result of one employee came positive, which sent officials into tizzy as well as triggering panic among the other employees who travelled to Amaravati from Hyderabad on the same bus with him.

Following the incident, officials directed the employees who came from Hyderabad along with the infected person to go into self-quarantine.

The officials are searching for his primary and secondary contacts.

Meanwhile, IVth block in the Secretariat building has been sanitized and thermal screening is being conducted for the employees attending duties in the Secretariat.
