Kakinada: The impact of Amphan cyclone is being felt in Kakinada–Uppada coast with the sea turning very rough at U. Kothapalli and some other coastal pockets in East Godavari district. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Amphan cyclone will turn into an extremely severe cyclonic storm at the time of its landfall on Bengal–Bangladesh coast. A second warning has been issued at Kakinada port amid sea surging nearly 10 metre from Antarvedi in Sakhinetipalli mandal to Karavaka in Mamidikuduri with high tidal waves.
The waves between Kakinada–Uppada rose by 1.5 to 2 metre and touched the beach road. The seawater at Uppada has surged forward and the pebbles have also been washed way. Thatched houses near the sea have been damaged by the heavy gales. The seawaters crossed the Geo–Tube wall and touched Mayapatnam road. In Konapapapet village in U Kothapalli mandal, fishermen moved their boats to safer places. Seawater entered houses of fishermen at Pallipet, Suradipet and Mayapatnam villages. Due to ban on fishing, fishermen have not ventured into the sea.
Kakinada revenue divisional Officer G Chinni Krishna told The Hans India that the vehicle movement on beach road had already curtailed, restricting entry of any vehicle into Uppada and further to avoid any untoward incident. He said that necessary steps have been taken to ensure safety of people in low-lying areas.
