Kurnool: With regard to Muharram festive celebrations two groups clashed with each other and created panic situations. The police who tried to pacify the issue have suffered injuries in a stone-pelting by the villagers. However, heavy police force was deployed and brought the situations to control.

A Circle Inspector, Sub Inspector and a constable were known to have suffered minor injuries.

As per the version of Dhone Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), V Narasimha Reddy, the people of Hosur village have made all arrangements to celebrate Chinna Saragathi (a pit filled with coal fireballs). The people of all communities except SC community would dance around the burning furnace. Despite asking them to participate at the dancing festival the other communities have opposed their entry.

With regard to opposing a heated argument took place between SC and other community people, said the DSP.

The people of SC community have approached Pathikonda police and sought help to ensure their participation at the dancing festival. The police interacting with the village elders have asked to entertain the people's participation. But the village elders who are adamant did not accept the proposal of the police. In view of untoward incidents that are likely to take place if allowed to celebrate Chinna Saragathi, the police suggested the villagers not to celebrate.

With the police orders irritating them some villagers got furious and at once began pelting stones on them, the DSP said.

In the stone pelting a Circle Inspector, Sub Inspector and a constable suffered injuries besides the windshield of the police vehicle too got damaged. To bring the situations under control picketing was set up besides deploying an adequate number of police personnel.

Presently the situations are under control and the entire village is under police surveillance. On Tuesday the festival will conclude with Pedda Saragathi, said Narasimha Reddy.

We have identified some persons but they were not taken into custody. We need to pursue the CC footages and will initiate action after the completion of Ganesh Idol immersion and Muharram festival, added the DSP.
