Machilipatnam: The State government has finally bifurcated the Machilipatnam Mandal Parishad (MPP) into two units — Machilipatnam North and Machilipatnam South — following the expiry of the term of the existing local body.
The Revenue Mandal had been bifurcated earlier into Machilipatnam North and Machilipatnam South, but the MPP continued as a single unit as its elected body was still in office.
With its term now over, the government has reconstituted the existing MPP as Machilipatnam North Mandal Parishad and constituted a new Machilipatnam South Mandal Parishad.
Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Department in-charge Special Chief Secretary Kantilal Dande issued GO Ms No 136 on Sunday.
According to the GO, both MPPs will have their headquarters at Machilipatnam town and the notification will come into force from Monday (October 5).
With the reorganisation, the two MPPs together comprise 34 gram panchayats and 20 MPTCs. With the constitution of the new Machilipatnam South Mandal Parishad, the number of MPPs in Krishna district has increased to 26 from 25. Similarly, the number of ZPTCs has also increased to 26.
The Machilipatnam North MPP will comprise 17 gram panchayats — Arisepalli, Borrapothupalem, Buddalapalem, Chinakaragraharam, Karagraharam, Chirivellapalem, Gokavaram, Manginapudi, Potlapalem, Mekavanipalem, Gopuvanipalem, Tavisipudi, Pedapatnam, Kanuru, Tallapalem, Pothepalli and Pothireddipalem. It has a population of 35,402, as per the 2011 Census, and nine MPTCs.
The Machilipatnam South MPP will also comprise 17 gram panchayats — Sulthanagaram, SN Gollapalem, Seetharampuram, Gundupalem, Rudravaram, Polatithippa, Garaladibba, Kona, Palle Tummalapalem, Chinnapuram, Nelakurru, N Gollapalem, Tummalacheruvu, Peda Yadara, Vadapalem, KPT Palem and Bhogireddipalli. It has a population of 33,668 and 11 MPTCs.
