Tirupati: Municipal Corporation Commissioner PS Girisha directed the engineering official to ensure quality in the works taken up under `Smart city project (SCP) for development of facilities in the city.

The commissioner made a surprise inspection of smart city works on Sunday which include development of Prakasam Park on Tirumala Bypass Road and in Srinivasa Sports Complex located in SV Arts College campus.

He inspected the works relating to walking track, facilities like seating and improvement of greenery in the park. The works should be carried without the removal of trees and if possible more trees should be planted in the park, he said.

Girisha directed the engineering officials to provide a canteen in the park for the benefit of visitors and also wanted time bound completion of the works in the park. In the Srinivasa Sports Complex where tennis court and swimming pool works are going on, the Commissioner expressed his ire on the contractor for delay in completing the works.

Under the Centre sponsored Smart city project, various works with a total cost of Rs 2,000 crore were taken up in the city for improvement of infrastructure facilities.
