The state election commission has written to collectors to complete the printing of ballot papers by December 15 for the panchayat elections. 10 percent more ballots than the last election are required this time.

According to the High Court directives, an election announcement is likely to occur anytime after January 10 Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy also addressed the same at a Cabinet meeting last week.

With the latest election commission letter, minimum of 2 and a maximum of 14 columns are prepared for the posts of Sarpanchs. The sarpanch candidates have pink, and while Ward members have white ballots. Officials have stated that the ballot used during the polling will contain only the serial number and the symbol of the election and will not include the names of the candidates.

The High Court has also been severely offended by the fact that the local bodies have expired and elections are not held yet. Against this backdrop, the AP government is preparing for election. The government is set to schedule local elections on January 10 or 11.

Chief Minister Jagan informed the ministers about the issue at a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday. The CM said it would launch an ammunition scheme on January 9 and the local election schedule would be announced on or after January 10.
