Rajamahendravaram: The district administration is trying to acquire private lands for housing scheme. Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is scheduled to launch distribution of house sites to the poor on Ugadi.

As part of it, the government sanctioning Rs 502 crore to the district administration to purchase private land for the housing scheme.

So far, the officials identified 1,900 acres of government land and has now embarked on acquiring 2,000 acres of private land by paying to the landowners, according to official sources.

An amount of Rs 15 lakh should be spent for land development, laying of roads, drains and otherbasic amenities. The administration is acquiring only undisputed lands for the housing scheme.

Official in theRevenue Department said as many as 3.30 lakh eligible persons were identified. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister directed theofficials to allot individual houses to the eligible.

The district administration also contemplating constructing G+2 houses if sufficient land cannot be acquired for distribution.

Chief Secretary Nilam Sawhney directed the Collector to speed up land acquisition.
