Srikakulam: Incessant rains on Wednesday and Thursday caused huge damage in several mandals in Srikakulam district. Till Thursday, total rain fall recorded was 4826 mm across the district.

Highest rainfall of 223 mm reported from Mandasa mandal, in Ranastalam mandal total rainfall was recorded was 218 mm, in Laveru mandal 208 mm and in Regidi mandal 160 mm.

Vehicular ttraffic to Pudilanka, Putchapadu and Nagarampalli villages under Vajrapukotturu mandal, Patuvardhanam village under Vangara mandal were affected. Holiday was declared for educational institutions on Thursday across the district.

A youth G Vasu of Sariyapalli village was washed in Bonalagedda rivulet at Kontikota village under Mandasa mandal and the body was yet to recovered. At Beela paddy crop was submerged. In Sompeta mandal, Amudalavalasa and Ponduru mandals, paddy crop was submerged.

Flood water from rivulet Desigedda flooded the road at Rentikota village under Palasa mandal as its bund breached. Flood water levels reamined normal in Vamsadhara, Nagavali, Bahuda and Mahendratanaya rivers. District Collector J Nivas directed Medical and Health, Rural Water Supply and Panchayat Raj officials to take all measures.
