Amaravati: The state government on Monday filed a special leave petition (SLP) in the Supreme Court challenging the AP High Court's verdict striking down its ordinance curtailing the tenure of State Election Commissioner. On the other hand, Congress legal cell leaders and TDP filed a caveat on the same issue.

It may be mentioned here that while setting aside the ordinance amending the tenure of office of SEC and service regulations pertaining to it, the HC has also annulled the state government's order appointing retired high court judge Justice V Kanagaraj as the State Election Commissioner.
