Supreme Court dismisses AP’s Petition on 34 % BC reservations
The Supreme Court has refused to hear a case filed by the Andhra Pradesh state government for restoration of 34 percent reservation for Backward Classes (BCs) in local bodies.
Andhra Pradesh had filed a case in the High Court of Andhra Pradesh, challenging the decision of the High Court, which quashed all government notifications that increased the BC reservation from 27 per cent to 34 per cent. This was done on the ground that the total percentage of reservations should not be more than 50 percent.
However, the Supreme Court did not agree with the plea of Andhra Pradesh government and dismissed its Special Leave Petition.
