Kurnool: The recent untimely rains have caused severe damage to the crops in the district. The Bengal gram crop cultivated at five mandals in Banaganapalle constituency, Kovelakuntla, Sanjamala, Owk and Kolimigundla were totally affected due to the rains. The farmers who were expecting to reap the yield in a fortnight are in great distress.Banaganapalle MLA Katasani Rami Reddy accompanied with agriculture scientist Jaya Lakshmi and mandal agriculture officers (MAOs) visited Sanjamala and Kovelakuntla mandals in the constituency and inspected the damaged crops. Katasani, speaking on the occasion, has said that Bengal gram was cultivated in thousands of hectares in the district. With the untimely rains, the farmers suffered a huge loss, said Katasani.

Recalling the devastation created by the Nivar cyclone, Katasani Rami Reddy said the YSRCP government has compensated crop damage to every farmer. This time also the government will pay the crop insurance to reduce the farmer's burden and instill confidence among the farmers, he said. This issue would be taken to the notice of Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. The YSR government is farmer-friendly government, so there is no need to fear, the MLA said.

Agriculture officers, Niranjan, agriculture market yard chairman B V Nagarjuna Reddy, YSR party leaders Pocha Sheela Reddy, Gundum Surya Prakaeh Reddy, Shena Reddy, Ramachandra Reddy, Pocha Venkatrami Reddy, Mudigedu Rajasekhar Reddy and others accompanied with the MLA.
