Vijayawada: Indian Association of Peoples Lawyers (IAPL) Joint secretary D Suresh Kumar has demanded that the Supreme Court should review the verdicts given by former Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi on various important subjects and strongly condemned the decision taken by the BJP led NDA government headed by Narendra Modi to offer Rajya Sabha seat to the retired Chief Justice barely less than four months of his retirement.

D Suresh Kumar along with other lawyers addressed a media conference at the Press Club here on Thursday. He said many former Supreme Court judges and top advocates in the country were raising objections and criticizing the decision taken by the BJP government to offer Rajya Sabha seat to the retired CJI. He said not even four months passed have since his retirement, Ranjan Gogoi got offer of Rajya Sabha seat and it gives suspicious of his judgments on important subjects like Rafael deal and the Ayodhya dispute , Triple Talaaq and Abrogation of Article 370. He has demanded that laws should be enacted to that no retired Supreme Court judge should get postings in future. It amounts to compromising on the independence of the judiciary, he added. He questioned how the former Chief Justice can accept the Rajya Sabha seat from the same government which he criticized a couple of years ago. He recalled Justice Ranjan Gogoi along with three other SC judges spoke to media in New Delhi and openly said democracy was in danger in India and judiciary was at stake under the rule of BJP.
