Visakhapatnam: Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) achieved desirable results in garbage-free city (GFC) as it scored a three-star rating after the announcement of the revised results.

From one-star scored in the GFC survey held in the month of May, GVMC has now bagged the three-star rating after applying for the reverification with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA).

Apart from Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Tirupati also bagged three-star rating in GFC. "Thanks to the revised results, Visakhapatnam not only scored three-star rating but also drew appreciation from the third-party agency Kantar appointed by the MoHUA. The team revisited the construction and demolition (C&D) processing centre at Kapuluppada and impressed with the work being carried out," said Viswanadha Sanyasi Rao, GVMC Additional Commissioner, adding that the next target is to score five-star in GFC next year.

With the three-star rating, the officials said it's certainly going to have a positive impact on the final Swachh Survekshan 2020 rankings.

Earlier, Vizag failed in C&D waste – storage, segregation, processing and recycling parameters and hence slipped to one-star but with revised assessment followed by the reverification, the smart city now bagged a three-star rating in GFC. About 1,435 cities applied for the GFC rating in 2020.
