There has been a rise in the number of book worms in the city in recent times with people showing more interest in coming to the library and reading books, newspapers and magazines.

Rajamahendravaram: There has been a rise in the number of book worms in the city in recent times with people showing more interest in coming to the library and reading books, newspapers and magazines. The number of readers coming to the branch library of Zilla Grandhalaya Samstha (ZGS) of Sitampeta in the city is increasing. On an average every day, around 300 readers are coming to the library. On holidays, the number is anywhere between 450 and 500.

There are more than 59,000 books in the library out of which 29,503 books are provided by ZGS, 10,000 books relating to mobile library and 20,000 books donated by the people. Among the 29,503 books, there are 20,877 Telugu books, 6,929 English, 1,589 Hindi and 108 Urdu. The library is getting 51 magazines including dailies.

Speaking to The Hans India here on Tuesday, Librarian K Suguna Kumari said that the library was having four computers and out of them, only one was in a working condition and four new systems were still required for the readers. There is a need to change the electrical phase capacity to run air-conditioned systems and also needs a cooling water system for the readers.

The library works from 8 AM to 9 PM without interruption and many students and others are stuck to the library, she explained. The library is conducting library week and other events as per the directions of the government, she added.
