Dakshina Kannada: Members of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) allegedly shouted pro-Pakistani slogans outside a centre where counting of votes for the Gram Panchayat elections was in progress at Belthangady in Dakshina Kannada district on Wednesday.

According to reports, workers from both BJP and SDPI were shouting slogans at each other. Just then some from the SDPI camp shouted 'Pakistan Zindabad'. After learning about the incident, circle inspector Sandesh PG dispersed the workers from both the parties.

Following the incident, police in Dakshina Kannada district registered an FIR at the Belthangady police station under 124A (sedition) and other relevant sections of the IPC against unknown persons who allegedly shouted pro-Pakistan slogans while celebrating victory of candidate of SDPI in the GP election. The reports claim that the identity of those who chanted the slogans is yet to be established.

A statement released by Dakshina Kannada district police said that a video was circulated which showed pro-Pakistan slogans being allegedly raised during celebrations by SDPI candidate's victory in Ujire.

"An FIR was registered against unidentified persons for raising Pakistan zindabad slogans during counting of votes in the Gram Panchayat elections on Wednesday under Sections 143 (Punishment for a member of an unlawful assembly), 124A (sedition) read with 149 (Every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object.) of the Indian Penal Code," a police statement added.
