36 students participate in inaugural NITK trek

Mangaluru The National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), Surathkal, conducted its first outdoor trek on Saturday, as the opening activity of the “Resilient Leadership” minor degree programme offered through the NITK Academy for Defence, Adventure and Leadership (NADAL).

The trek in Mudigere involved 36 students and initiated the outdoor training component of the course. It focused on building physical stamina, team spirit, and environmental consciousness.

One of the participants, Kruthika C S described the trek as a blend of challenges and valuable learning that allowed students to connect with nature and reflect deeply on their experience. The NADAL academy was established with the vision of shaping individuals who are physically robust, mentally tough, and morally strong.

The Resilient Leadership minor degree, available to B.Tech students, consists of five courses that cover defence awareness, survival skills, strategic leadership, adventure sports, and leadership roles in the armed forces. Classroom sessions are supplemented with practical activities such as trekking, mountaineering, water sports, survival exercises, and leadership camps. Each batch can accommodate up to 60 students, including reserved seats for lady students, and training is guided by defence specialists, sports professionals, and industry leaders.

The Mudigere trek marks the beginning of hands-on learning initiatives under the academy.

Through the integration of academic studies, adventure, and leadership development, NITK aims to equip its students to tackle national, social, and environmental challenges with resilience and strong ethical values.
