Khader expedites action on coastal projects after Mangaluru cabinet meet

Mangaluru: U T Khader, Minister for Health and Family Welfare, said on Monday that Cabinet decisions taken in Mangaluru must now be matched by swift action plans and administrative clearances.

At a media interaction in the Circuit House, Mangaluru, he reported a first round with officials to mark the projects sanctioned for Dakshina Kannada and to prepare action plans and estimates. “Officers are closing the proposals for the soonest possible government filing,” he added.

Khader announced that local bodies may sanction single-plot layouts of up to 1,000 square metres, about 25 cents, to reduce public difficulty over property tax and legal records approvals. PDOs will decide at gram-panchayat level, chief officers in towns and commissioners in municipal areas. Concerned departments will frame detailed guidelines.

Guidelines for using Tulu as an official language in government work are to be written. Translation will allow Tulu applications; the rules will also set the place of Tulu and Kannada scripts.

The Cabinet has given in-principle approval to rename Dakshina Kannada district as Mangaluru and opened a one-month period for public views. The last decision will weigh people’s opinions and feelings; suggestions may be sent to the Deputy Commissioner. On funding, Khader said projects cleared by Cabinet will go ahead. The Finance Department will review money implications and see that allocations are sound.
