Youth held for killing woman in Bengal's Purulia over suspicion of infidelity

Kolkata: A youth has been arrested in West Bengal's Purulia district for killing a 19-year-old girl by slitting her throat on suspicion of a love affair with another man, police said on Sunday.

The police added that the accused tried to dispose of the body wrapped in a bag on a bike. However, he was caught early on Sunday morning.

The name of the accused person is 21-year-old Amit Kumar Mahato. The incident took place in the Balarampur police station area of ​​Purulia district.

A relative of the deceased has also filed a rape complaint.

However, nothing has been said by the police in this regard.

The accused person was produced before the Purulia court on Sunday.

The Balarampur police station applied for the accused's custody for 10 days.

However, the judge granted nine days of police custody.

A district police officer said, "A case of spontaneous murder has been registered. The accused youth will be taken into custody and questioned in detail."

According to the police, the deceased girl and the accused live in the same police station area.

Both of them lived in separate messes in the Tamna police station area on the outskirts of Purulia city due to their education.

There had been tension in their relationship for some time.

The girl was in contact with someone else. On this suspicion, Amit called the girl to his secluded mess on Saturday night.

Allegedly, there was a heated argument between the two. At that time, Amit killed the girl with a sharp weapon and slit her throat. Then, in order to destroy the evidence of the murder, Amit stuffed the girl's body in a bag and tied it to the back of his bike. Later, in the dark of night, he set off towards Balarampur to dump the body.

At around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, while checking the naka of Balarampur police station, the bike was stopped after seeing suspicious movements and after searching, the blood soaked body in the bag was recovered.

The girl was immediately taken to the local Banshgarh hospital where the doctors declared her dead.

The police claimed that the accused Amit confessed to his crime during questioning following which the police arrested him.

Besides, the incident site, which is the accused's mess under Tamna police station, has been sealed.

The body of the deceased girl has been sent for autopsy.

Meanwhile, the father of the deceased girl alleged that not only Amit, but several other people were involved in the murder of her daughter.

He demanded the strictest punishment for the culprits through a complete and impartial investigation of the incident.

The father of the deceased said, "My daughter lived in a mess in Purulia city. There she was studying for nursing coaching. She went out for coaching after eating on Saturday afternoon. Someone might have called her to a secluded place. I could not reach my daughter by phone. The phone was switched off for a long time. So we rushed to Purulia where we received a tragic news from the police. We want the accused involved in this incident to be hanged."
