Building awareness for healthy eyes
In Short
One of the simplest ways to care for the eyes is to avoid spending long periods continuously looking at screens.

Building awareness for healthy eyes
Sight is one of the ways we experience and understand the world around us, yet eye health is often overlooked until a problem appears. For students, healthy vision supports everyday activities such as reading, writing, learning in the classroom and using digital devices. Developing awareness about eye care early can help students recognise healthy habits and pay attention to changes in their vision.
One of the simplest ways to care for the eyes is to avoid spending long periods continuously looking at screens. Students can take regular breaks while studying on computers, tablets or phones and look at something farther away for a short while. Keeping screens at a comfortable distance and using appropriate lighting can also help reduce eye strain.
Awareness about nutrition can also support healthy choices. A balanced diet containing vegetables, fruits and foods that provide essential vitamins and minerals contributes to overall health, including normal eye function.
Students should also learn to recognise possible signs of vision problems. Blurred vision, difficulty reading the board, frequent headaches while studying, eye discomfort or regularly sitting very close to a screen should not be ignored. Parents and teachers can encourage students to discuss such concerns and seek professional advice when necessary.
Eye care is not only about addressing a vision problem after it develops. It is also about awareness, prevention and timely attention. By learning about their eyes and developing healthy daily habits, students can take an active role in protecting their sight and supporting comfortable learning.
