As a prelude to the International Biological Diversity Day which would be held on May 22, Telangana State Biodiversity Board in collaboration with the National Institute of Tourism and Hospitality Management (NITHM) conducted an ethnic food cooking competition festival at NITHM, Gachibowli, on Saturday.

Hyderabad: As a prelude to the International Biological Diversity Day which would be held on May 22, Telangana State Biodiversity Board in collaboration with the National Institute of Tourism and Hospitality Management (NITHM) conducted an ethnic food cooking competition festival at NITHM, Gachibowli, on Saturday.

Various items from jowar, ragi, oats, quinoa, and various vegetable dishes, were prepared by the participants at the event. From amateurs, cook to experts showcased their culinary skills in this event. They contestants participated under three categories namely in amateurs, chef and students category.

A panel of two judges –Chalapati Rao, executive chef of Simply South, and Rizwan, executive chef, United Kitchens of India – selected winners in three categories – amateurs, chef and students category. They were awarded cash prizes and presented cooking appliances.

The objective of the event is to create a bond between human and environment with respect to lifestyle change and get free from various diseases like diabetes, hypertension, and thyroid, and this can only be attained by adapting traditional ethnic food in their diet like millets which is healthy.
