Thiagarajar polytechnic college receives education excellence award for fifth time

Bengaluru: Thiagarajar Polytechnic College, , has received the IE(I) Engineering Education Excellence Award for the fifth time at the 5th IE(I) Engineering Education Excellence Summit & Awards 2026 held in New Delhi on September 19.

The summit, organised by the Institution of Engineers (India), focused on the changing requirements of engineering education and the need to prepare students for multidisciplinary careers. Mizoram Governor General V.K. Singh (Retd.) said young engineers should be equipped to work across disciplines, experiment, develop prototypes and find solutions to real-world challenges.

He also emphasised the importance of practical exposure, design thinking and interdisciplinary projects in engineering education. He said India’s achievements should give young engineers confidence while also placing responsibility on them to contribute to the country’s future development.

Dr V. Karthikeyan, Director of Thiagarajar Polytechnic College, said the fifth recognition reflected the institution’s sustained commitment to excellence, innovation and institutional development.

“The honour emphasises a responsibility to evolve with the changing needs of industry for building a Viksit Bharat,” he said.

The award comes soon after the college achieved 100 per cent placements for 692 students graduating across 11 programmes during its 66th Graduation Day.

Sona College of Technology, Salem, another institution under the Sona Group, was also honoured at the summit. The event recognised institutions across the engineering education spectrum, including universities, NITs and polytechnic colleges.

Sona College of Technology has focused on industry-linked education, research, innovation and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, semiconductors and VLSI, according to the institution.
