Heavy rain forecast in five TN districts; strong winds in hilly areas
Chennai: Heavy rain is likely in five districts of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday, with the weather department forecasting rainfall accompanied by strong winds in the hill areas of Coimbatore and in Nilgiris, Theni, Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri.
In a press release, the department said a low-pressure system prevailing over Tamil Nadu and south interior Karnataka was influencing weather conditions across the region.
The forecast indicates that several other districts could receive moderate rainfall during the day, while parts of Chennai may experience moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.
The heavy rain forecast covers the mountainous parts of Coimbatore district, rather than the entire district. Nilgiris and Theni, along with the northern districts of Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri, are the other areas where heavier showers are expected. Strong winds could accompany rainfall in these locations, according to the department.
Moderate rain is likely at some places in Tiruppur, Erode, Salem and Namakkal. The forecast also includes Tirupattur, Vellore, Tiruvannamalai and Villupuram, extending the expected rainfall across several western and northern districts.
In central Tamil Nadu and the Cauvery delta region, moderate showers are expected in Kallakurichi, Cuddalore, Karur, Tiruchirappalli,
Ariyalur and Perambalur.
