Nayanthara
Chennai: A headof the November 6 release of her fantasy-comedy sequel ‘Mookuthi Amman 2’, Nayanthara visited the iconic Arulmigu Kalikambal Temple on Thambu Chetty Street in Chennai on Tuesday to offer special prayers. Clad in a dark blue sari with a red and orange border, Nayanthara, whom fans fondly call ‘Lady Superstar’, drew an excited crowd of devotees and admirers outside the temple, all hoping for a glimpse of her. She completed the look with traditional nose rings, large jhumkas and a bun adorned with jasmine flowers.
Nayanthara offered prayers with deep devotion, joining in the elaborate rituals held in honour of the presiding deity. The actor, who reprises her role as the titular goddess (Mookuthi Amman) in the Sundar C-directed film, also distributed saris and other essentials to women gathered at the temple. She took part in an annadanam (community meal) and served food to devotees.
‘Mookuthi Amman 2’, written by Venkatt Ragavan, also stars Duniya Vijay, Regena Cassandrra, Urvashi, Yogi Babu and Ilavarasan, among others. HipHop Tamizha has composed the music. Gopinath Venugopal handles the cinematography and Fenny Oliver the editing. Ishari K Ganesh produces the film under his Vels Film International banner.
The film is a sequel to the Tamil fantasy-comedy ‘Mookuthi Amman’, directed by RJ Balaji and co-directed by N J Saravanan. Balaji also starred in the film alongside Nayanthara and an ensemble cast featuring Urvashi, Smruthi Venkat, Moulee and Ajay Ghosh.
The film revolves around a news anchor who joins hands with a goddess to expose a godman as a fraud. ‘Mookuthi Amman’ premiered on Disney+ Hotstar on November 14, 2020, after its planned theatrical release was called off due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and received positive reviews from critics.
