CPI’s role in Hyderabad Metro history must be recognised: Narayana
Hanumakonda: The Communist Party of India (CPI) was the first political party to extend unconditional support to the Hyderabad Metro Rail project despite opposition from political parties, intellectuals and sections of the business community, said CPI National Control Commission chairman Dr K Narayana. Reflecting on NVS Reddy’s book MeghaPatham (A Path Through the Clouds), Narayana praised his administrative skills, determination and diplomatic approach in overcoming challenges.
He recalled that the CPI rejected attempts by intellectual groups and opposition leaders to halt the project, stressing Hyderabad’s growing transport needs. Narayana also recalled declining a proposal from then TRS opposition leader K Chandrashekar Rao to jointly oppose the Metro.
He questioned why the book recognised opponents but omitted supporters, insisting the CPI’s contribution deserved acknowledgement.
