No sugar or wheat flour at Guntur FP shops ahead of Deepavali
Guntur: Fair price (FP) shop dealers in Guntur district are not distributing sugar or wheat flour to white ration cardholders for November. Cardholders, who visited shops to collect the items for preparing Deepavali sweets were disappointed to learn that only rice is being supplied this month.
One woman expressed her frustration after receiving only rice. She had planned to make sweets for the festival and will now have to buy sugar from the open market at Rs 70 per kg. The dealer told her that only rice was being issued against white ration cards.
AP Civil Supplies Corporation district officials said the required stocks had not yet arrived. Sugar would be distributed as soon as supplies reached the district, while wheat flour would be supplied next month in both urban and rural areas.
National Consumer Federation senior vice-president Chadalavada Haribabu alleged that ration shops in Guntur district had failed to provide sugar and wheat flour as promised by the government for Deepavali. He noted that Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar had widely publicised distribution of one kg of wheat flour at Rs 25 and one kg of sugar along with rice through fair price shops.
Haribabu said he had messaged the district Joint Collector, civil supplies officer and corporation manager about the issue but received no response.
