97 lakh more women hop on TGSRTC buses
Hyderabad: The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation has recorded a significant increase in female passengers utilizing the state government’s Mahalakshmi free bus travel scheme, with nearly 97.20 lakh additional women availing the facility during July, August, and September this year compared with the corresponding period last year.
According to official transport data, as many as 34.67 crore women passengers traveled under the scheme during the July to September quarter of 2025. This figure rose to 35.65 crore during the same quarter in 2026. TGSRTC Vice Chairman and Managing Director Y Nagi Reddy stated that the growing popularity reflects the initiative’s contribution towards social and economic empowerment of women across Telangana.
To meet escalating public demand, the public transport corporation is expanding operations by increasing bus fleets and daily trips across high-demand routes state-wide.
